Olympus Dive Center experts are well acquainted with some of the most exciting scuba diving sites along the North Carolina coast. The late Captain George Purifoy (Olympus Dive Center's founder) is credited with discovering and identifying many of the wrecks that students still visit today. The center has seen constant growth since its start in 1975, and now runs charters all year. Trips occur daily during peak diving season.
The North Carolina coast offers some of the most beautiful underwater scenery you can find in our region. It boasts the healthiest marine environment in North America. Pegged as “The Graveyard of the Atlantic,” it is also home to some of the most amazing shipwrecks available for exploration! Among the approximately 2000 sunken ships peppering the coastline are warships from World Wars I and II, an 18th-century schooner, and a 20th-century luxury liner.
Divers looking for even more heart-pumping excitement can swim with North Carolina’s native Sand Tiger sharks. Ranging in size from four to eight feet, these beautiful creatures often travel in groups. Take advantage of a unique opportunity to observe these docile predators in their natural environment when you dive with Olympus Dive Center!
